Adey Coker Debunks Allegation

Contrary to a press statement issued by the family of Mrs. Grace Osafoa Akuamoah Darteh alleging that the Managing Director for Acorn Forex Bureau Ltd Mr. Joseph Adey Coker has illegally purchased a land belonging to Darteh Family.

in a swift respond to the allegation, Mr. Adey Coker presentedocument (indenture) to debunk the said allegation claiming the land was purchase legally in 1996.

The indenture sighted by this portal, the said land was sold to Mr. Coker on 7th day of september 1996 between the vendor Mrs. Grace Osafoa Akuamoah Darteh of house number 889 kaneshie Estates Accra acting for herself and on behalf of her children hereafter named and the purchaser ACORN FOREX BUREAU LTD of No. 25 Sobukwe Road, Adabraka, Accra, acting by its Managing Director Joseph Adey Coker.

The indenture stated that by a conveyance made on 4 May, 1953 between Hagar Lamiley Coffie, head of Lomo family of Accra of the other part and Koshie Lamptey and Okoe Lamptey also of Accra of the other part and registered in the Deeds Registry, Accra, as Land Registry No. 1849/1956 all that land discribed therein of which the land the subject of this conveyance formed part was conveyed to koshie Lamptey and Okoe Lamptey for ever.

The indenture further stated that by a conveyance made on 31 July, 1961 between Koshie Lamptey and Okoe Lamptey aforementioned and Codjoe Akuamoah Darteh also of Accra and registered in the Deeds Registry, Accra, as Land Registry No. 2322/1961 the land the subject of this conveyance was conveyed to Codjoe Akuamoah Darteh for ever.

However, Codjoe Akuamoah Darteh died on 26 December, 1985 and and probate of his will was on the 12 January, 1987 granted by the High Court of Justice, Accra, to the Administrator General of Ghana.

The indenture further revealed that by a vesting assent made the 23, July, 1990 and registered in the Deeds Registry, Accra, as Land Registry No. 2556/1996 the land the subject of the conveyance was vested in the vendor herein and her children namely KOFI ANIM AKUAMOAH DARTEH, AKOSUA AJANTEWAA AKUAMOAH DARTEH, AMA KUNADU AKUAMOAH DARTEH AKUA BOATEMAA AKUAMOAH DARTEH, KOFI AKYEAMPONG DARTEH and their decendants sons and daughters as tenants-in-common.

The indenture added that by the Power of Attorney made the 30 August 1996 the children of the vendor aforementioned gave power to the vendor to dispose of their interest in the land.

‘In consideration of the sum of Sixty-Five Million Cedis (65 million cedis)paid by the purchaser to the vendor being the purchasse price of the land the vendor herself and as attorney for her children aforementioned hereby conveys to the purchaser for ever all the interest, title and power she and her said children hold in the land the subject of this conveyance’ the indenture noted.

The second page of the indenture revealed the signature of the vendor in the person of Mrs. Grace Osafoa Akuamoah Darteh witness by Asantewa Akuamoah and Anim Darteh with the signature of Joseph Adey Coker, Managing Director for, and on behalf of Acorn Forex Bureau Ltd in the presence of Ellen Blankson.
